Downspouts That Move Water Where It Belongs

Gutters collect the water — downspouts decide where it goes. We install, resize, and re-route downspouts and extensions so runoff ends up well away from your foundation, not against it.

Overview

A gutter system can be perfectly sized and still fail your home if the downspouts are too few, too small, or dumping water right at the slab. Downspouts are the drainage half of the system, and on Texas homes they are frequently the weak link — undersized 2x3 spouts choke on grit, and short elbows send water straight into the foundation zone.

IronFlow Gutters adds, upsizes, repairs, and re-routes downspouts so your whole system actually protects the house. That includes larger 3x4 spouts where flow demands it, secure re-attachment after wind damage, and extensions or splash solutions that carry water a safe distance from the foundation.

Why Downspouts Are Critical in Texas

The reason downspouts matter so much here comes back to soil. Expansive clay under much of Texas swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and concentrating roof runoff next to the foundation drives exactly that damaging cycle. Downspouts that discharge several feet out — onto grade that slopes away, a splash block, or an extension — keep that water from ever reaching the slab.

Our storms compound the issue: high-volume rain overwhelms undersized spouts fast, and the overflow lands in the worst place. Getting downspout count, size, and discharge right is one of the most cost-effective things you can do to protect a Texas foundation.

Signs Your Downspouts Need Work

  • Water pooling or eroding mulch right where the downspout ends
  • Foundation cracks or soil separation near a discharge point
  • Downspouts that overflow at the top elbow during heavy rain
  • A spout that came loose or disconnected in a windstorm
  • Only one or two downspouts for a large, high-volume roof

Our Process

How we handle your downspout installation & repair

Step 1

Evaluate drainage

We check where water is going now and where it needs to go to protect your foundation.

Step 2

Plan the fix

We recommend the right number, size, and routing of downspouts for your roof and lot.

Step 3

Downspout Installation & Repair — Common Questions

How far should downspouts drain from the house?

A good rule is at least 4 to 6 feet from the foundation, discharging onto ground that slopes away. In Texas, moving water that distance is critical because concentrated runoff near the slab drives the clay-soil movement that damages foundations.

My downspout dumps right next to the foundation — is that a problem?

Yes, and it is a common one. Water discharging at the slab feeds the expansive-clay cycle that cracks foundations. We add extensions, elbows, or splash solutions to carry that water safely away.

Should I upgrade to bigger downspouts?

Often, yes. Many homes have undersized 2x3 downspouts that clog with shingle grit and overflow in heavy rain. Stepping up to 3x4 downspouts moves far more water and clogs much less. We will tell you if your roof needs the upgrade.

Can you add more downspouts to my existing gutters?

Absolutely. Adding downspouts is one of the most effective ways to fix an overflowing gutter that is otherwise sound. More outlets mean water leaves the gutter faster and is less likely to spill over the edge.

Do you install underground drainage?

We focus on above-grade downspouts, extensions, and discharge routing that keep water off your foundation. If your lot needs full buried drainage, we will give you an honest assessment of what the situation calls for.
